FRIED: Alois, Lewis, Louis,John, Vincent, Vinzenz. I'm looking for someone who may have obits on any of these 1870s immigrant persons or their spouses in Murray County. Several are buried at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church cemetery, east of Fulda. I'm hoping to find information in an obituary that may connect this FRIED line in some way to my Ignatz FRIED. Mike Connor
CONNOR: My Great Great Grandfather, Thomas Connor (B: Oct 12, 1842), was a long time resident of Currie, MN. He arrived in the area, apparently considered by some as an early settler, on or about 1866. He died in 1901 and is buried along with his first wife, Mary Willard, in the local Currie Catholic Cemetery.

I have been able to collect his U.S.Naturalization papers, Census material, Death Certificate and the like and found that he was born in Ireland, his parents were Thomas (Sr) and Mary Stewart, are also from an unknown Ireland location. According to one of his Obituaries, prior to his arrival in the U.S. Thomas (Jr) was gold miner in Australia. A lot of traveling and experience for a 24 year old to bring to Currie.

I have been trying, for a long time, to determine where in Ireland this Connor family hailed from and what attracted Thomas (Jr.) to Currie, MN. without much success. I know that the Catholic Church bought large tracks of Minnesota land and resold them to the poorer Irish but I believe this was done in the 1870's or so. Thinking that possibly Thomas came to Murray County to meet up with people he knew, I am hoping a local resident or someone with information about Murray County could tell me where in Ireland other residents came from.

Any information would be appreciated. If in reading this message you are related please contact me direct as I have information on most of his descendants.
